Labuan ship explosion: Two more bodies found

LABUAN: Two bodies believed to be the remains of four missing crew members of the ship that exploded and burst into flames were recovered afloat not far from the scene. Fire and Rescue Services department director Zainal Madasin said the first was recovered at about 12.57pm while the second was spotted within a few minutes later by members of the joint search and rescue effort in the vicinity of the MISC vessel MT Bunga Alpinia. "There were injuries on the bodies," he said when met at the Marine police jetty before the remains were sent to the Labuan Nucleus Hospital for post mortem. Meanwhile, Baharuddin Yaakub, 58,  the father of the deceased, Shahril Azmi Baharuddin, 28, claimed his son's remain at the hospital and is due to fly to Melaka this afternoon. 26 Julai 2012, Labuan - Kejadian berlaku 2.30 pagi tadi. Letupan sangat kuat sampai the whole Labuan boleh dengar. Harap tiada kemalangan jiwa. Let's pray for them. Source: Facebook Source: Facebook Kejadian dipercayai diakibatkan sambaran kilat sewaktu proses pemunggahan kargo methanol. Kebakaran yang bermula daripada kawasan dek (depan atau tengah, forward or amidships), diikuti beberapa siri letupan telahpun merebak sehingga ke accomodation. Kebakaran bermula sekitar jam 2 pagi, dipercayai ketika kargo sudah hampir penuh. Merujuk kepada gambar terbaru pagi ini, api masih belum dapat dipadamkan sepenuhnya, tetapi kapal dilihat telah rosak teruk dan menyenget ke tepi sebelah kiri (listed to portside). Tiada berita tentang keadaan ruang enjin. Letupan boleh didengari hampir ke seluruh Pulau Labuan. Sehingga jam 9 pagi, tiada lagi liputan media oleh sebarang agensi berita tempatan.
