Labuan ship explosion: Two more bodies found


LABUAN: Two bodies believed to be the remains of four missing crew members of the ship that exploded and burst into flames were recovered afloat not far from the scene.

Fire and Rescue Services department director Zainal Madasin said the first was recovered at about 12.57pm while the second was spotted within a few minutes later by members of the joint search and rescue effort in the vicinity of the MISC vessel MT Bunga Alpinia.

"There were injuries on the bodies," he said when met at the Marine police jetty before the remains were sent to the Labuan Nucleus Hospital for post mortem.

Meanwhile, Baharuddin Yaakub, 58,  the father of the deceased, Shahril Azmi Baharuddin, 28, claimed his son's remain at the hospital and is due to fly to Melaka this afternoon.

"This is god's fate (takdir tuhan)," he said at the hospital where he was with his wife and a few MISC officials.

"I spoke to my son on Wednesday night around 10pm on the telephone and there was nothing unusual. He told me his four hour duty shift was about to start and he spoke to his mother. That was the last we spoke to him."

The deceased was his second of five children.
